‘The Bills learned recently that one of their candidates to make the roster as a defensive lineman and nose tackle, Phidarian Mathis, will be suspended three games to start the NFL season. Mathis is competing against DeWayne Carter and others to fill an important depth role behind Deone Walker. Jim Leonhard, their new defensive coordinator, will not use a nose tackle in every sub-package, but the position is important enough for Beane to add competition ahead of Buffalo’s preseason game Saturday in Cleveland.’
