The defensive line decision really evolved into what approach the Bills wanted to take with DeWayne Carter, their 2024 third-round pick. However, the end of the team’s third preseason game presented an opportunity to avoid having to make that decision. The Bills put rookie fifth-round pick Zane Durant on IR with the designation to return, clearing the way to keep both Carter and Gaines.

Outside linebackers (6)

Greg Rousseau, Bradley Chubb, Michael Hoecht, T.J. Parker, Javon Solomon, Mike Danna

It was a slight surprise that they kept Danna on the initial 53-man roster. He was playing behind others at his position, though the Bills were likely afraid they wouldn’t be able to get him to the practice squad, so they kept him. Though after the dust settles, if the Bills are looking for a spot they need to clear for a new player, Danna is on the short list. Remember, he is a vested veteran, and is not subject to waivers, so they could likely get him back to the practice squad if he doesn’t sign with another team.
